2005 Overview
2007 SEASON
To say that Hirwaun CC has had a turbulent few seasons is like saying that George Best enjoyed the odd tipple at Christmas. Over the last 3 seasons the club has gone from the glory of playing in the SWCA 3rd division to the brink of abolishment, on more than one occasion. There have been a number of factors driving this, but I think everyone will agree the main reason is an inability to hold on to players. In particular experienced players, who have played for the club for a number of years, have either stopped playing cricket altogether or have moved to play for some of the regions "super-clubs". We do not have a youth system in place and consequently have found it difficult to recruit young players.
The social side of the club has also slowly diminished over the last couple of years. Crazy summer nights out to Swansea and Tom Peppers in Llanelli are but a distant memory for many. Dropping out of the SWCA and entering the Thomas Carroll Alliance league now allows us to have a consolidation period. We only have to field 11 players each weekend, which should ease the stress for a number of the clubs organisers. This time should be used to generate interest in the club. Re-kindling the social side of the club and the sense of team spirit is vital for this process. Hopefully, we will be able to do both this season to ensure that Hirwaun CC continues for the forseeable future.
